Karthik subburaj

It’s hard to praise someone in same age group. The first thing stand in front of you is ego, that to , if the stage is something like you all had an equal opportunity and only few overtakes you, then you’ll never speak about them. But there would be definitely few whom you would like to talk about beyond all this barriers and they had reached to that level in your mind not only because they are great but also they are still the same people whom you had moved around.

I will name three people like that, Suresh, for his greatness, Ramasamy, For his Intelligence and finally Karthik or as we call Subbuni for his talents. I will take sometime in detailing about the first two persons, but now I felt it’s time to speak something about Subbuni J

I first saw his in Quest 99 @ TCE. He mocked Surya’s aval varuvaala song. It was nice. Then eventually he became my college mate and things went smooth. We had very less interactions @ the earlier stage and after a year, we had an opportunity to play a skit for our college annual day. There formed the team and I really came to know how talented he is. I would say it was us first , who made the skit on Cricket match with Old actors Vs New actors.

Subbuni coined the script and it looked awesome. We re-used all old jokes and I played the role of MGR(don’t laugh…I say) and he played the role of TR(u all can laugh now J ). It was a big hit and paved way for us to various cultural events. It was a roller coaster ride from then, what not, wherever we went , we started winning. Feel good days. In between, we made some serious stuffs also which got critical acclaim from students.(kanji thotti + weavers problem was the best during those days). Thus, our college life ended with high note and we were split and were doing our jobs.

I used to think about what next and I really don’t have guts or talents to take it further, but for Subbuni, it was still a burning desire to make it big. He kept on honing his skills and waited to strike the right chord. Then one fine day, he joined a one day course on short film making and that was his visiting card. Then he invested his interest and money to learn more and ha came out with his first 3 mins film: Who’s the Indian – I was also a part of this project. Then he never stopped, he tried to visualize his dreams\concepts and all came out well. The technical brilliance of his film and narration techniques was also improvising a lot.

He started getting recognition, he won few awards(one international) by now and he’s taking a big step soon in his life. I knew he’ll definitely succeed.

I had associated with him for couple of short films and believe me, its tough to work with him. With very little resource and immature artists he thrives hard to get the maximum out of it. U wont believe , for every short film, he took almost 7-8 hrs for shooting alone J. If he come out big, he’ll be rated next to Shankar for perfection.

You can watch his short film at this location: http://www.reel-dreams.blogspot.com/

All the best subbuni and I m very proud of you !!!!!!
